Andrew Lincoln has revealed that he was scared witless by the gritty authenticity of the making of The Walking Dead.

"I had real goose-bumps in every scene. Frank Darabont demanded gritty authenticity at all times, and some of the cast's screams were 100% real."

Andrew went on to say that Frank Darabont even withheld details of some scenes from the cast so that their reactions would be ones of genuine fear.

"It was heart-stopping. I can promise you the initial reactions on our faces are pure terror."

Frank Darabont has revealed his plans for a potential second season of upcoming AMC drama The Walking Dead.

"When we get to season two - knock on wood - it will obviously be expanded from six episodes to 13," Darabont told Comic Book Resources. "I'm hoping that we might actually be able to shoot part of it in [winter]. It would be great not just to get out of the heat, but to present a different idea to the audience visually and tonally by having it be winter."

Frank expressed that he is eager to recreate a scene from the original comic series.

"There's some really cool stuff that Kirkman did, where they find the one zombie that's frozen to the ground. I'd never seen that before and that's really cool."

He also confirmed that he wants to introduce the character of Michonne, who in the comic series is badass and uses a samurai sword on the undead.

"When she comes striding out of the wasteland like a Clint Eastwood fucking spaghetti western character cross-melded with some samurai movie... and there's just a little drift of snow in the air. I would love to put that on film!".

Robert Kirkman has also given a small update on the show.

"They start filming episode four in a few days," said Kirkman. "So they’re trucking along and all I can really say is that everyone has been a dream to work with. Frank [Darabont] is doing amazing work, Gale [Anne Hurd] is just awesome at what she does and AMC has been a real treat to work with. This show is something unlike anything that’s ever been on television before. I think people are just going to flip out when they see what we’ve done here.

"It was a pretty cool experience, I got the chance to work in an actual writer’s room with series writers Chic Eglee, Jack LoGiudice and Adam Fierro and it’s been a real treat getting to learn the process and see how it all works. I also got direct guidance from Frank Darabont himself, which is really just priceless. He’s such a talented screenwriter, his advice should be written on stone tablets and have religions based on it."

The Walking Dead panel at this years comic con will be held on Friday, July 23rd at 11:30am to 12:30pm.

The panel for AMC's The Walking Dead will include Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Jon Bernthal (Shane), Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori Grimes), Laurie Holden (andrea) and Emma Bell (Amy)

According to rumours on the net Michelle MacLaren will be directing an episode of The Walking Dead.

She has previous for directing episodes for tv shows as she has directed a bunch of Breaking Bad episodes and an episode for The X-Files. She was also a producer on The X-Files for a couple of years.

Robert Kirkman has took some time out to give AMC a little interview.

Contains spoilers for the comic series.

Q: You started writing The Walking Dead in 2003. What's it like to finally be on set?

A: "Surreal," I guess, is a word I've been saying a lot. "Amazing" is another word. I was on a movie set last summer that was like a big budget blockbuster, and before I got out here I told myself, "I'm not going to be seeing the same kind of stuff because they don't have a budget like a summer blockbuster." But you know what? It's almost bigger. The first day I was here was the day after they had flipped the car and there was a big shootout that we saw. It was just absolutely mind-blowing.

Q: Are you finding things are being physically realized as you had imagined them?

A: Everyone is really trying to do good by the comic, and there are scenes that are straight out of it. I think that fans are just going to be thrilled. But at the same time, [Frank Darabont] is vastly improving the material. And there are things here and there that along the way I should have caught, but didn't. There's some amazing stuff he added for Morgan's character in the Pilot episode that's just not in the comic. It was back story, but he handles it in a way that just really brings it to the forefront. It's like, Morgan, that guy is an awesome character!

Q: You commented last week about how psyched you were to see Andrew Lincoln portraying Rick --

A: I don't see how anyone couldn't see Rick. I don't see how Andrew Lincoln's wife, like 2 years ago, wasn't like, "Oh Hey Rick, how ya doing?" This guy just eats, drinks and sleeps Rick Grimes. Steven Yeun, the actor playing Glenn, was on set for the first time yesterday. He walked over and said hello to Andrew Lincoln. They were chatting, and I looked over and I was like, "That's Rick talking to Glenn!"

Q: You're writing one of the episodes this season. How does that experience compare to writing the comic?

A: It's interesting because they're not characters that I'm writing very much any more. I'm working on the book every month, but most of the people on the show are dead in the comic. Spoiler alert! [Laughs] I'm walking around set thinking to myself, "Yeah, I killed that guy. Yup, killed her. Probably gonna kill him next issue!" So it's a different experience, and there are a lot of cool twists that are going to make the show entertaining for people who have read the comic. As far as me writing the stuff, it's really cool to go back and play with these characters again that I haven't been able to write in a while.

Q: Have you learned anything new about the characters the second time around?

A: It kind of makes me wish that Shane hadn't died in Issue 6. Shane's a really cool guy, and there's a lot of story potential there. I blew through a lot of stuff that they're kind of dwelling on a little bit more here. So yeah, there are places where I'm like, "Oh man I wish I'd done it this way." And that's kind of neat.

Q: You were on set to witness hordes of zombies invading Atlanta. What was that like?

A: That was probably the craziest thing I've ever seen. A three by three block square of Atlanta was shut down so that they could move around corners and go down streets. It was more than I ever expected seeing, and you could get to a certain point in the area that they were shooting, and kind of turn around in a 360 degree view, and that's like, "OK here's what it's like at the end of the world, and I'm standing in the middle of it." They had trucks turned over and a burned out bus, they had all the stores closed and dressed to look like the windows had all been cracked. And then all of a sudden, here's hundreds of zombie extras walking around.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in the next 8 weeks of production?

A: I'm looking forward to being on set for my episode, and getting to see that kind of stuff. Because there's a lot of cool stuff that happens in every episode. There's an entire list I could go down, but I'd ruin the entire season for you. Everything that they're going to be cramming into every episode I cannot wait to see them pull off. And I know they're going to be pulling it off in an amazing way. It's non-stop awesome over here at the set of The Walking Dead.

Q: That sounds like the perfect way to end this conversation, Robert.

A: [Laughs] Good.

According to "the internet", Child actor Chandler Riggs has been cast to play Carl Grimes, the star of the show's son. This'll become a pretty vital role later on in the series.

Also judging by this kid's name and age he was obviously named after Friends.

There's no word on the character he'll be playing yet, but my money's on Jim.

The Walking Dead to go Global

Fox International Channels have bought the rights to distribute The Walking Dead series globally. So far FIC airs in over twenty countries.

FIC also mentioned that they are hoping to try and join other international distributors to take The Walking Dead onto other media platforms.

Fox International Channels CEO David Haslingden had this to say on FIC distribution rights for TWD.

"This deal marks the first time that we are picking up all international rights. This will allow us to optimise the launch, marketing and distribution of the show by working with our affiliates and with other channels around the World. It's the beginning of a new era for FIC."

Also AMC president Charlie Collier commented on the partnership with FIC.

"This partnership underscores a game-changing expansion in our business, brand and programming model, The Walking Dead represents a real transformation for AMC as it marks the first time we are operating as both a studio and a network."

Frank has taken a moment out from shooting The Walking Dead to take part in a teeny tiny interview.

"Q: What attracts you to the zombie genre?

A: I've always wanted to do my take on the zombie mythos, since I was a kid and I saw Romero's Night of the Living Dead the 1968 black and white version. For our zombie show I'm calling that the Book of Genesis, and whenever there's a question about zombie behavior I go back to Night of the Living Dead. Here's my favorite thing: the endless debate among the fans about how fast a zombie can move. There are the folks who just can't stand seeing zombies running. I'm kind of in that camp, but if you look at the very first zombie in Night - the one in the cemetery chasing Barbara, he gets up to a pretty good jog. I'm keying our zombie behavior off of that film: Whether they're in a very languid state or they're on the attack, they'll move no faster than that first zombie in Night of the Living Dead.

Q: Of course your other Bible is Robert Kirkman's comic book series. How did you decide that was going to be the story?

A: There's no big mystery about how I came across The Walking Dead: I walked into a comic book shop some years ago and saw it. Since I happen to be a zombie nut, I took it home, I read it, and I said "Oh my God, there's a great series in this." And I've been the horse pursuing that particular carrot for five years now, delighted to finally be on the set.

Q: How do you think Kirkman's comic, and this television series, differ from previous zombie movies?

A: One of the things I found most intriguing about The Walking Dead was that it was so focused on the characters. Within the context of the cool zombie apocalypse, there was this very serious character drama. I thought, this is a great opportunity to satisfy not only zombie fans, but bring in an audience that wouldn't normally, necessarily, seek out a zombie film to watch.

Q: What's it like working with Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick, and Jon Bernthal who plays his partner Shane?

A: I love these guys! They're both stars, and they're just the sweetest and most able actors. I've worked with some really fantastic actors in my day, and I think these guys are as good as anybody. I'm counting my blessings here, because sometimes when you're directing you're counting your curses -- you're counting the things that are fighting you. But when everything is working in your favor and you've got people like this, oh man it's been nothing but blessings. We're golden, man.

Q: How does shooting in Atlanta compare to shooting in a more traditional place like Hollywood?

A: Atlanta and Georgia all-told is proving to be brilliant for us in terms of what it has to offer, in terms of what the story needed, in terms of the variety of locations -- it really is a fantastic place to shoot. It's hot as hell at the moment, so you gotta put on your, "OK it's going to be a hot, humid summer while we're working" hat - but once you get used to that and wear a towel on your head, you're pretty good.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about what you're shooting right now?

A: Right now we're filming the shootout that kicks things off for the series. It's the kind of thing I haven't had a chance to do that often in my career. Most of my movies tend to be very sweet, talking dramas. I haven't had a chance to do that much action. So I'm actually getting a lot of my desire for that sort of thing out right now, and expressing my desire to roll a car six times. Yeah baby, I'm there! Let's load those guns with more blanks, absolutely. The first zombie is up tomorrow. It's going to be the very first scene of the entire series -- a good, gut-punch of a scene right off the bat."

Superman Crossover?

Obviously not. However, DigitalSpy reported last month that Brandon Routh, who's just now finished working on Chuck, will be joining the cast of The Walking Dead;

"According to Bloody Disgusting, the Superman Returns actor will join the already cast Andrew Lincoln and Jon Bernthal in the series."

Apparently "The report did not offer any details about Routh's possible role."

The report didn't offer any detail about Routh's role because he doesn't have one. He later confirmed via twitter that he was indeed not joining the cast of The Walking Dead.

The creator and writer of The Walking Dead comic book series has stated he will be involved in the writing and production of the AMC television adaption.

"I’ve been out to Hollywood - I’ve been in the writers’ room for a week, working with them on the plots for the first season. I’ve been fairly hands on, but I'm trying to back off as much as I can, because my main focus is the comic-book series.

"As a comic-book reader, I hate it when a comic gets adapted and the writer just takes a vacation. I don’t want to take a vacation. So I’m trying not to spend too much time working on the show, but I’m fairly hands-on.

"Now having said that, if people end up not liking the show, I had nothing to do with it."

The Walking Dead TV Series

In August 2009 The walking dead was picked up to be made into a TV series by AMC (Breaking Bad, Mad Men). Filming for the pilot started in may and the series will air in October 2010. It will consist of six episodes.

It will be produced and directed by Frank Darabont who also directed The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption which both received an academy award nomination for best film

Casting news so far is that Andrew Lincoln (Teachers) has been given the lead role as Rick Grimes and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break) has been cast as Ricks wife Lori Grimes.

Jon Bernthal will star as Shane Walsh who in the comic series is Rick Grimes best friend & partner at the Cythiana police station and Jeffrey DeMunn will star as Dale who is part of the group of survivors in the series.
